Prairie View A&M men's track and field wrapped up a two day meet at the New Mexico Team Open, held Jan. 30-31 in Albuquerque. Competing at altitude on the 200-meter banked track, the Panthers turned in a strong statement led by a school record in the men's 600 meters and a deep sprint group that stacked the results sheet across multiple events.
The headline performance came on Day 1 from Sebastian Cruz, who won the indoor 600 meters in 1:16.99 to set a Prairie View A&M school record. Cruz's run not only claimed the event title but also established an early standard for the Panthers' middle-distance crew this season. His victory set the tone for a first day that featured multiple top performances and promising early-season marks across the sprint and quarter-mile groups.
The men's 200 meters underscored the depth of Prairie View A&M's sprint squad. Devin Miller clocked 21.88, followed closely by Joshua Gayden at 21.91 and Julian Dawkins at 21.93, giving the Panthers a tight trio all under 22 seconds indoors.
The quarter-milers added to the momentum on Day 1. De'Trevyon delivered the third-best indoor 400-meter time in program history, crossing in 47.50 to highlight the group. He was joined by Cristian Hodges, who ran 49.17, and A'isayah Brown, who posted 49.04. The combination of a top-three all-time performance and additional sub-50-second efforts gave Prairie View A&M encouraging depth at 400 meters this early in the season.
Day 2 continued the trend of notable Panther performances, particularly in the hurdles and invitational sections. In the 60-meter hurdles, Ronzell Woods recorded a time of 8.36, which ranks as the sixth-best indoor mark in Prairie View A&M history. Woods' performance provided a significant early-season benchmark in the short hurdles and added another entry to the program's all-time list coming out of the New Mexico meet.
In the 400-meter invitational on the second day, Bryce McFadden turned in a strong effort with a 47.78 clocking, reinforcing the Panthers' presence in the event after the Day 1 results. The meet closed on a high note for Prairie View A&M in the men's 4x400-meter relay, where the quartet of Miller, Gayden, Walter Williams IV, and Hodges combined for a 3:12.75 performance. The relay time capped a weekend that showcased both top-end talent and relay depth for the Panthers.
With multiple school top-10 performances, a school record from Cruz in the 600 and a strong relay finish, Prairie View A&M left Albuquerque with clear momentum. The Panthers will return to competition Feb. 13-14 in Lubbock, Texas, at the Texas Tech Invite, where the team will look to build on its early-season marks and continue climbing the program record books as the indoor season advances.
