Lady Panthers Clinch a Convincing 3-0 sweep Victory Over Ark.-Pine Bluff

PINE BLUFF, AR --  The Prairie View A&M volleyball team executed a near flawless performance securing a 3-0 win against the Ark.-Pine Bluff Lady Golden Lions on Monday on the road at HO Clemmons Arena.  Dominating each set, the Lady Panthers showcased their skills in this critical league encounter, advancing their season record and demonstrating their prowess on the court.

In the first set, Prairie View set the tone with a solid 25-19 win, effectively countering the Lady Golden Lions' plays. They amplified their dominance in the second set, closing it with a staggering 25-9 score, leaving little room for Ark.-Pine Bluff to recover. The final set saw a closer competition, ending at 25-22, where key endgame kills and strategic points clinched the victory for Prairie View.

Outstanding performances were rampant among the Lady Panthers. Janyah Henderson and D'Mya Hill both notched a total of 16 kills, bolstering the team's offensive efforts. Kylee Owens also contributed significantly with 13 kills and topped the charts with 3 aces. Defensively, Henderson led with 3 blocks, supported by Aliyah Levert and Hill, who each added 2 blocks to the team's tally.

Leah Lawson directed the play brilliantly, delivering 32 assists. The defense was on point as well, with Leila Smalls securing 11 digs, followed by Lawson's nine and Owens' seven.  The Lady Panthers' offense finished with a hitting percentage of .5. got 11 digs from Leila Smalls to lead them defensively.

With this victory, the Lady Panthers improved their current record to 9-13 overall and 6-1 in the SWAC, maintaining a strong stance in the league standings. Looking ahead, Prairie View A&M is set to face Florida A&M on October 18, 2024, at the William J. Nicks Baby Dome in Prairie View, TX, potentially another crucial league match as they aim to build on their momentum.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Lady Panthers grabbed control on the first point and held the lead the rest of the way to secure the first set 25-19. Prairie View A&M led by eight points at 9-1 before finishing off the set, collecting 16 kills while only notching one attack error along the way.

SET 2 | Prairie View A&M continued to roll after a set-one win by earning a 25-9 victory in set number two. The Lady Panthers scored first and never trailed in the set to earn the victory. Prairie View A&M opened its biggest lead of the stanza, 16 points, to finish the set. The Lady Panthers hit .500 throughout the set. The Prairie View A&M offense also got a boost from six aces in the stanza.

SET 3 | Prairie View A&M finished the match in a 3-0 sweep after grabbing the third set. The Lady Panthers grabbed control of the set early when the score was 5-4 and never looked back to win 25-22. Prairie View A&M led by five points at 16-11 before finishing the stanza.
