Prairie View A&M falls to McNeese 8-7 in 10 innings

LAKE CHARLES, La. --The Prairie View A&M Panthers fell 8-7 in a 10-inning match up to the McNeese Cowboys Friday.

Senior Victor Mendoza (0-1) took the loss on the mound for Prairie View A&M (6-3). Junior Elijah Breeden was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going four shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking none and striking out four.

Junior Garrison Weiss led the way offensively for the Panthers, going 3-for-4 in the ballgame with a double and four RBI. Freshman Michael Smith furnished a standout day at the dish as well, going 4-for-5 with a triple and a walk. Sophomore Michael Burroughs also helped out, going 1-for-6 for Prairie View A&M with a triple and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers were trailing 1-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Prairie View A&M got an RBI single from Weiss, scoring Smith from third base.

The Cowboys then scored one run to retake their advantage heading into the fourth inning, when the Panthers responded by getting back on the scoreboard themselves. The Prairie View A&M offense exploded for five runs, highlighted by a three-run double off the bat of Weiss, which brought the Panthers lead to 6-2.

McNeese narrowed Prairie View A&M's lead to 6-3 before the Panthers stretched the advantage to 7-3 in the fifth inning. The Panthers were unable to hold the lead, as McNeese scored five times over the remaining five innings to grab the 8-7 win.
