PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --The Prairie View A&M Panthers had a tough showing on Sunday, falling to the Texas Southern Tigers 17-3 despite the efforts of sophomore Michael Burroughs, who went 2-for-3 with a double.
Junior Preston Allen (1-2) got the ball to start for Prairie View A&M (12-14, 4-2) and took the loss. Sophomore Tyson Carlton was a bright spot for the Panthers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 3.2 shutout innings, allowing three hits, with one walk and two strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom of the first inning with the game still scoreless. Prairie View A&M got an RBI single from senior Marshal Jonas, scoring Burroughs from second base.
The Panthers lost the lead they built in the first but got back on the board in the third trailing 4-1. Prairie View A&M picked up two runs in the frame, the big hit being an RBI double from junior Lee Allen, which tightened the Tigers lead to 4-3. The Panthers were unable to get any closer, as Texas Southern added 13 runs to their tally on the way to a 17-3 final.
