PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --Despite picking up eight hits in the ballgame and out-hitting Huston-Tillotson, Prairie View A&M was unable to push across more runs, as the Panthers were defeated by the Rams 5-4 Tuesday.
Sophomore Camden Farmer (0-3) got the ball to start for Prairie View A&M (13-15) and took the loss. Junior Elijah Breeden was a bright spot for the Panthers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing one shutout inning, allowing no hits, with no walks and one strikeout.
In the batter's box, the Panthers were led by sophomore Michael Burroughs, who went 2-for-4 on the day with an RBI. Junior Jadin Moreno furnished a noteworthy effort as well, going 0-for-2 with a walk and two RBI. Senior Marshal Jonas also contributed for Prairie View A&M, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Prairie View A&M got an RBI single from Burroughs, scoring freshman Michael Smith from second base.
The Panthers lost the lead they built in the first but got back on the board in the fifth trailing 3-1. Smith came across to score the lone run of the inning for Prairie View A&M, which brought the score to 3-2 in favor of the Rams.
Huston-Tillotson built their lead to 5-2 before the Prairie View A&M offense got back to work, reducing that lead to 5-4 in the seventh. Jonas' run-scoring single highlighted a two-run output in the frame for the Panthers. The Panthers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
