Talley collects 3 extra base hits in Prairie View A&M's 7-6 win over Southern

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --Junior Aerin Talley collected three extra-base hits to help propel the Prairie View A&M Panthers over the Southern Jaguars 7-6 on Saturday.

Junior Cailin Massey (6-6) got the win for Prairie View A&M (20-16, 15-1). The right-hander went five innings, giving up six runs, five earned, on seven hits, allowing one walk and striking out two. Junior Halley Elizarraras also pitched well, going one shutout inning while allowing one hit.

Talley's three extra-base hits were the highlight of a 3-for-3 day and included two doubles, a home run, a walk, and an RBI. Senior Jaylyn Davis compiled a standout performance as well, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Senior Biviana Figueroa also chipped in for the Panthers, putting together three hits in four trips to the plate.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom of the first inning with the game still scoreless. Prairie View A&M plated two runs off of Southern pitching, one of which was driven in on a run-scoring double off the bat of Davis.

The Jaguars failed to push any runs across before the Panthers offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Prairie View A&M picked up two runs, including one on a solo round-tripper off the bat of Talley, which brought the Panthers lead to 4-0.

Prairie View A&M kept Southern scoreless before expanding their lead to 5-0 the following inning.

Prairie View A&M lost the lead they built in the third but got back on the board in the sixth trailing 6-5. Figueroa and freshman Jordyn Ferrandino each scored a run for the Panthers in the inning, bringing the Prairie View A&M advantage to 7-6. The score remained 7-6 for the rest of the game, as the Panthers held on for the win.
