PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --Sophomore Mia Nunez collected three extra base hits and senior Maddison Parker added two more to help power the Prairie View A&M Panthers past the UAPB Lady Lions 15-7 on Saturday.
Senior Mya Hall (2-0) got the win for Prairie View A&M (27-17, 22-1). The right-hander went six innings, giving up seven runs, five earned, on seven hits, allowing five walks and striking out five.
Nunez's three extra base hits were the highlight of a 3-for-3 day, and included a double, a triple, a home run, a walk and five RBI. Parker made her contribution with a double, a home run and three RBI, part of a 2-for-4 performance at the plate. Senior Biviana Figueroa also helped out for the Panthers, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a home run and three RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless.
The Panthers then held the Lady Lions scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. which brought the Panthers lead to 6-0.
UAPB narrowed Prairie View A&M's lead to 6-4 before the Panthers stretched the advantage to 10-4 in the fourth inning. The Panthers hit two home runs in the inning on the way to scoring four runs.
Prairie View A&M kept the Lady Lions scoreless before their offense got things rolling the next inning. The Panthers drove home a run on Parker's one-out solo dinger off freshman Humphrey, bringing the score to 11-4 in favor of Prairie View A&M.
UAPB got within 11-7 until the Panthers scored again in the sixth inning to stretch its lead to 15-7. The Prairie View A&M offense piled up four runs, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Parker and a two-run home run from Figueroa. The score remained 15-7 for the rest of the game, as the Panthers coasted to the win.
