Prairie View A&M fights back from sixth-inning deficit to take down Grambling 9-5

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --The Prairie View A&M Panthers fought back from down 5-4 in the sixth inning to take down the Grambling Tigers 9-5 Sunday.

Junior Matthew Krall (3-1) got the win for Prairie View A&M (14-19, 5-7). The right-hander went five innings, giving up five runs, all of them earned, on seven hits, allowing three walks and striking out three. Junior Preston Allen also pitched well, going four shutout innings while allowing three hits, walking none and striking out two.

In the batter's box, the Panthers were paced by senior Paul Castro, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a double and two RBI. Senior Benjamin Ybarra furnished a standout day at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Junior Jayden Williams also chipped in for Prairie View A&M, putting together three hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Prairie View A&M put up two runs in the frame, highlighted by an RBI triple off the bat of Ybarra.

The Tigers then tied the ballgame at two before the Panthers came back to reclaim their advantage in the third inning. Williams came across to score the lone run of the inning for Prairie View A&M, which brought the score to 3-2 in favor of the Panthers.

Prairie View A&M's lead had evaporated once the fifth inning arrived and turned into a 5-3 Grambling advantage, when the Panthers cut that deficit to 5-4. The Panthers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of junior Garrison Weiss.

Prairie View A&M kept the Tigers off the board before taking the lead in the seventh. The Panthers recorded two runs when a single from freshman Legend Fugett scored junior Lee Allen and Castro, bringing the Prairie View A&M advantage to 6-5.

The Panthers kept Grambling off the board before expanding their lead to 9-5 the following inning. The score remained 9-5 for the rest of the game, as the Panthers coasted to the win.
