GAME 1 | Prairie View A&M 5, Alcorn State 3
PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --The Prairie View A&M Panthers broke through after a 3-3 tie in the fifth inning to beat the Alcorn State Braves 5-3 Saturday.
Junior Matthew Krall (6-1) got the win for Prairie View A&M (28-24, 17-9). The right-hander went 4.2 innings, giving up three runs, zero earned, on six hits, allowing two walks and striking out four. Junior Leonardo Bravo also pitched well, going 2.1 shutout innings while allowing two hits, walking none and striking out four.
Offensively, the Panthers were led by junior Garrison Weiss, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a double and two RBI. Sophomore Michael Burroughs compiled a standout day at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Freshman Michael Smith also helped out for Prairie View A&M, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a double and two walks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the third inning.
The Braves then tied the ballgame at three before the Panthers came back to reclaim their advantage in the sixth inning. Prairie View A&M managed to push across two runs in the inning, which brought the Panthers lead to 5-3. The score remained 5-3 for the rest of the game, as Prairie View A&M held on for the win. 66 72 31 4 5
