ATLANTA, Ga. --Freshman Michael Smith went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Prairie View A&M Panthers in a 16-1 loss to the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats on Wednesday.
Junior Michael Dews (4-4) got the ball to start for Prairie View A&M (29-25) and took the loss. Senior Devin Aguado was a bright spot for the Panthers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing two scoreless innings, allowing one hit, with no walks and two strikeouts.
Offensively, the Panthers were paced by Smith, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a double and an RBI. Senior Marshal Jonas furnished a standout performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers were trailing 7-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Prairie View A&M got on the board thanks to Smith's RBI double with one out. The Panthers were unable to get any closer, as Bethune-Cookman added nine runs to their tally on the way to a 16-1 final.
