Williams notches 5 RBIs in Prairie View A&M's 10-6 victory over Alabama A&M

HOUSTON, Texas --Sophomore Landon Williams racked up five RBIs to help lead the Prairie View A&M Panthers over the Alabama A&M Bulldogs 10-6 on Friday.

Sophomore Landyn Grant (1-0) started on the mound and picked up the win for Prairie View A&M (1-0). The left-hander went seven innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on four hits, allowing no walks and striking out four. Sophomore Demarques Thompson also made an impact on the mound for the Panthers, throwing one scoreless inning while allowing no hits, with one walk and two strikeouts.

Williams went 3-for-3 with a double, a home run and a walk in addition to his five RBIs for the Panthers. Sophomore Michael Smith compiled a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-4 with a home run, a walk and two RBI. Senior Brayden Johnson also helped out for Prairie View A&M, putting together three hits in five trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Prairie View A&M got an RBI single from Williams, scoring Smith from second base.

After the Bulldogs rallied to tie the ballgame at one, the Panthers came back to retake the lead in the third inning. Prairie View A&M scored twice on Williams' two-run homer, which brought the score to 3-1 in favor of the Panthers.

Alabama A&M narrowed Prairie View A&M's lead to 3-2 before the Panthers stretched the advantage to 6-2 in the fifth inning.

Alabama A&M put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Panthers still coasted to the 10-6 win.
