PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --Freshman Chase Moore collected five RBIs to help lead the Prairie View A&M Panthers past the Texas College Steers 14-1 on Tuesday.
Freshman Kamar Dove (1-0) started on the mound and picked up the win for Prairie View A&M (2-2). The right-hander went 4.2 innings, giving up one run on five hits, allowing three walks and striking out four. Senior Seve Medrano also made an impact on the mound for the Panthers, throwing 1.2 scoreless innings while allowing no hits, with one walk and three strikeouts.
Moore went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and a walk in addition to his five RBIs for the Panthers. Freshman Sonnier Moses also compiled a standout day at the plate, going 1-for-1 with four walks. Sophomore Jordan Williams also helped out for Prairie View A&M, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom of the first inning with the game still scoreless. Prairie View A&M's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a one-run single off the bat of junior Michael Burroughs.
The Panthers then held the Steers scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Moses came across to score the lone run of the inning for Prairie View A&M, which brought the score to 5-0 in favor of the Panthers.
Prairie View A&M held Texas College without a run before building their lead to 7-0 the following inning. The Panthers recorded two runs when a single from Moore scored junior Paxton Huff and Moses.
Prairie View A&M kept the Steers scoreless before their offense got things moving the next inning. The Panthers scored four runs in the inning, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Moore, bringing the score to 11-0 in favor of Prairie View A&M.
Texas College got within 11-1 until the Panthers scored again in the sixth inning to stretch its lead to 14-1. The score remained 14-1 for the rest of the game, as the Panthers coasted to the win.
