SAN ANTONIO, TX - Prairie View A&M's softball team, the Panthers, are gearing up for an action-packed 2025 season with high hopes and key objectives under the leadership of 2024 SWAC Coach of the Year Head Coach
Vernon Bland, entering his 14th season. After an impressive run last year, with a final record of 29-19 overall and a dominant 23-1 in the SWAC, the Panthers look to maintain their momentum, coming off back-to-back SWAC championships.
The Panthers will kick off their season participating in the UIW Tournament at H-E-B Stadium in San Antonio, Texas, between February 7-9. They will face Eastern Illinois University, University of the Incarnate Word, and University of Texas Arlington in what promises to be a thrilling initiation to their campaign. Following these initial challenges, the Panthers are scheduled for their first home outing of the season on March 11 against Stephen F. Austin University at the Lady Panthers Softball Stadium.
Amidst the thrilling season agenda, the first conference clash will see the Panthers play against Grambling State University in Grambling, Louisiana, from March 7-8. The team has seen significant changes in its roster, with 16 players graduating and 13 new players joining. Key returning players include
Nya Brown, Isabela Rodriguez,
Aryana Cruz, and SWAC's pre-season player of the year,
Mia Nunez, who also achieved recognition as a 1st team outfielder in the SWAC.
The Lady Panthers' roster, balanced with returning talent and fresh faces such as
Dyani McKinley and
Brielle Moreno, promises new dynamics and potential. The community and fans of Prairie View A&M hold high hopes and immense support as the Panthers aim to extend their championship success into the new season.
