Prairie View A&M Sweeps the Lady Golden Lions in Weekend series

GAME 1 | Prairie View A&M 9, UAPB 1

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --The Prairie View A&M Panthers took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to a 9-1 win over the UAPB Lady Lions on Saturday.

Senior Cailin Massey (5-3) started in the circle and picked up the win for Prairie View A&M (11-14, 6-1). The right-hander went five innings, giving up one run on two hits, allowing two walks and striking out one.

Offensively, the Panthers were paced by senior Aerin Talley, who went 2-for-3 on the day with two triples and two RBI. Senior Janaiya Thomas furnished a standout performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-2 with a double and three RBI. Sophomore Reagan Green also helped out for Prairie View A&M, putting together two hits in two trips to the plate while adding a double, a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless.

The Lady Lions failed to push any runs across before the Panthers built on their lead in the third inning. The Prairie View A&M offense exploded for five runs, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Thomas and a two-run triple from Talley, which brought the score to 8-0 in favor of the Panthers.

UAPB narrowed Prairie View A&M's lead to 8-1 before the Panthers stretched the advantage to 9-1 in the fifth inning. The Panthers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of junior Dyani McKinley. The score remained 9-1 for the rest of the game, as Prairie View A&M coasted to the win.

GAME 2 | Prairie View A&M 2, UAPB 0

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --Senior Halley Elizarraras was dealing on Saturday, throwing a five-hit shutout to lead the Prairie View A&M Panthers past the UAPB Lady Lions 2-0.

Elizarraras (2-0) went the distance for Prairie View A&M (13-13, 7-1), giving up five hits, walking none and striking out two.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers took the lead for good in the fifth, scoring for the first and only time in the inning. Prairie View A&M scored twice on a two-run double off the bat of sophomore Isabela Rodriguez.
