Moreno dominants in game one; Talley and Thomas shine in win against Alcorn State in game two

GAME 1 | Prairie View A&M 7, Alcorn State 0

LORMAN, MS -- Junioer Brielle Moreno was dealing on Friday, throwing a three-hit shutout to lead the Prairie View A&M Panthers over the Alcorn State Lady Braves 7-0.

Moreno (6-3) went the distance for Prairie View A&M (14-13, 10-1), giving up three hits, walking none and striking out six.

Offensively, the Panthers were led by senior Janaiya Thomas, who went 3-for-4 on the day with a double, a triple and an RBI. Junior Mia Nunez compiled a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with a triple. Junior Dyani McKinley also chipped in for Prairie View A&M, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers took the lead for good in the second, scoring for the first time in the inning. Prairie View A&M picked up a pair of runs in the frame.

The Panthers then tacked on runs in the sixth and seventh innings, with their biggest output coming in the sixth when they scored three times.

GAME 2 | Prairie View A&M 15, Alcorn State 5

LORMAN, MS --Senior Aerin Talley racked up three extra base hits and Thomas added two more to help lead the Prairie View A&M Panthers over the Alcorn State Lady Braves 15-5 on Friday.

Senior Halley Elizarraras (3-0) started in the circle and picked up the win for Prairie View A&M (15-13, 11-1). The right-hander went five innings, giving up five runs, two earned, on five hits.

Talley's three extra base hits were the highlight of a 3-for-3 day, and included a double, two triples and three RBI. Thomas made her contribution with two doubles and four RBI, part of a 3-for-4 performance at the plate. Sophomore Jade Uresti also helped out for the Panthers, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a double and two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Nunez came across to score the lone run of the inning for Prairie View A&M and get them on the board.

The Panthers lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the second trailing 2-1. Prairie View A&M put up two runs in the frame, punctuated with an RBI triple off the bat of Talley, which brought the Panthers lead to 3-2.

Prairie View A&M kept Alcorn State without a run before expanding their lead to 6-2 the following inning. The Panthers recorded three runs in the frame, two of them coming across on a two-run triple from Talley.

Prairie View A&M held the Lady Braves scoreless before their offense got things rolling the next inning. bringing the Prairie View A&M advantage to 9-2.

Alcorn State got within 9-3 until the Panthers scored again in the fifth inning to stretch its lead to 15-3. The Prairie View A&M offense piled up six runs, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Uresti and a two-run single from Thomas. Alcorn State put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Panthers still coasted to the 15-5 win.
