PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas -- Sophomores Michael Smith and Ahmar Donatto each collected three hits, but the Prairie View A&M Panthers fell to the 4-3 on Tuesday.
Freshman Kamar Dove (2-1) got the ball to start for Prairie View A&M (4-9) and took the loss. Senior Leonardo Bravo was a bright spot for the Panthers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing three shutout innings, allowing two hits, with no walks and two strikeouts.
In addition to his three hits, Donatto had an RBI to lead the Panthers. Smith added a triple, a home run and an RBI to his three-hit performance as well. Freshman Sonnier Moses also helped out for Prairie View A&M, putting together two hits in five trips to the plate while adding a triple.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers were trailing 1-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Prairie View A&M got an RBI single from junior Michael Burroughs, scoring Smith from third base.
The game remained tied until the very next inning, when the Panthers got going again on offense. Prairie View A&M scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Donatto, which brought the Panthers' lead to 2-1.
Prairie View A&M's lead had disappeared by the time the eighth inning came around and turned into a 4-2 advantage, when the Panthers cut that deficit to 4-3. The Panthers added a run on Smith's lead off home run off freshman Justin Mireles. The Panthers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
