PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --The Prairie View A&M Panthers got three hits out of senior Brayden Johnson in an 11-4 loss to the Grambling Tigers Sunday.
Freshman Kamar Dove (2-2) started and took the loss on the mound for Prairie View A&M (8-26, 4-8). Sophomore Julian Scott was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out one.
In addition to his three hits, Johnson had a triple and an RBI to lead the Panthers. Sophomore Ahmar Donatto compiled a standout day at the plate as well, going 2-for-5 with a home run and an RBI. Junior Jadin Moreno also chipped in for Prairie View A&M, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a triple.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 5-0, the Panthers first put runs on the board in the first inning. Johnson's run-scoring single highlighted a two-run inning for Prairie View A&M.
The Tigers expanded their lead to 8-2 before the Panthers offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the fifth. Prairie View A&M picked up a run on Donatto's leadoff home run off of senior Ethan Bates, which tightened the Tigers lead to 8-3.
Grambling expanded their lead to 11-3 before the Prairie View A&M offense got back in action, reducing that lead to 11-4 in the eighth. The Panthers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of sophomore Landon Williams. The Panthers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
