Jonas and Johnson show out in Prairie View A&M's 18-2 victory over Alabama A&M

HUNTSVILLE, AL --Marshal Jonas and Brayden Johnson each racked up two extra base hits to help power the Prairie View A&M Panthers over the Alabama A&M Bulldogs 18-2 on Sunday.

Redshirt Freshman Ladyn Grant (2-5) got the win for Prairie View A&M (11-31, 7-11). The left-hander went seven innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on six hits, allowing four walks and striking out three.

Johnson's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-2 day, and included two doubles, two walks, and three RBI. Jonas made his contribution with a double, a triple, a walk, and five RBI, part of a 2-for-4 performance at the plate. M. Smith also helped out for the Panthers, putting together two hits in five trips to the plate while adding a triple and four RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Prairie View A&M scored twice in the inning, including one on a solo shot from Sonnier Moses.

The Panthers then held the Bulldogs scoreless before expanding their lead in the third inning. The Prairie View A&M offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Johnson, which brought the score to 6-0 in favor of the Panthers.

Alabama A&M narrowed Prairie View A&M's lead to 6-2 before the Panthers stretched the advantage to 12-2 in the fourth inning. The Panthers' bats heated up in the inning, scoring six runs, including a two-run triple off the bat of Smith and a two-run double from Jordan Williams.

Prairie View A&M kept the Bulldogs scoreless before their offense got in gear the next inning. The Panthers scored six runs in the inning, highlighted by a three-run triple off the bat of Jonas, bringing the score to 18-2 in favor of Prairie View A&M. The score remained 18-2 for the rest of the game, as the Panthers coasted to the win.
