7/24/2025 8:01:00 AM

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Prairie View A&M University is proud to announce the hiring of Kortland Ware as the new Head Coach of its men's and women's golf programs. A decorated coach, accomplished professional golfer, and program-builder, Ware brings an elite level of experience and energy to The Hill.

Ware comes to PVAMU after a highly successful tenure as Director of Golf at Lincoln University (Mo.), where he began leading the men's and women's programs in November 2022. In just two seasons, Ware made a transformative impact — upgrading the program's facilities, elevating competitive results, and earning national recognition.

In December 2024, Ware was named the 2024 Non-Division I HBCU Coach of the Year by the Black College Golf Coaches Association and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The GCAA also honored Lincoln University with the 2024 Mark Laesch Award, which recognizes the program that shows the greatest improvement in adjusted stroke average per round from the previous season — a testament to Ware's leadership and the team's progress.
Ware's 2023–24 season included historic accomplishments:
  • Led the Lincoln women's team to two tournament victories, including a first-place finish at the National Women's Collegiate Championship.
  • Guided standout Kaathi Gunasegar to individual medalist honors and an invitation to play in the LPGA Pro-Am alongside world No. 1 Nelly Korda.
  • Directed the women's team to two runner-up finishes and nine top-10 finishes overall.
  • Coached the men's team to two second-place finishes, including a podium finish at the PGA WORKS Championship at PGA Sawgrass in Florida.
  • The LU men also achieved four top-five finishes and seven top-10 results during the season.
"I am absolutely thrilled to step into the role of the head men's and women's golf coach at Prairie View A&M!" said Ware. "This opportunity means so much to me, as I get to continue to guide and inspire a new generation of talented athletes. My mission is to create an environment filled with energy, teamwork, and passion, where every player feels empowered to grow and shine. Together, we'll embrace challenges, celebrate victories, and forge lasting bonds that extend beyond the golf course. I can't wait to embark on this exciting journey with our incredible community and make unforgettable memories along the way!"

Beyond team results, Ware also helped transform the golf experience at Lincoln by securing funding to build the KWAME Golf Center, a state-of-the-art on-campus training facility that includes a simulator, practice greens, and player lockers.

"Coach Ware is a dynamic leader and competitor who has a clear vision for developing championship-level golf programs," said PVAMU Director of Athletics Anton Goff. "His ability to elevate both performance and culture is exactly what we need as we continue to grow our golf programs into national contenders."

Before entering the coaching ranks, Ware competed professionally on multiple tours, including the Midwest Golf Tour, APGA Tour (2019–2021), and Hooters Tour (2010–2014), earning five mini-tour wins and recording a career-best round of 10-under par.

Ware began his collegiate career at Jackson State University, where he won the 2006 SWAC Individual Championship with a three-round total of 213. He later transferred to Lincoln University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 2010. In addition to coaching, Ware also served as Director of Advancement at Lincoln and has spent years teaching golf fundamentals to players of all skill levels.

He is joined in this next chapter by his wife, Jamie, and their son, Kortland Jr.
