Panthers Set to Host Florida A&M in Key Weekend Series Opener

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas — The Prairie View A&M baseball team returns home this week to open a three-game SWAC series against Florida A&M beginning Thursday, April 2, at 3:00 p.m. inside Tankersley Field. First pitch times for Friday and Saturday's contests are to be determined.

The Panthers look to carry momentum into conference play as they welcome a Florida A&M squad that features a balanced lineup and a mix of steady starting pitching and bullpen depth.

Scouting the Rattlers

Florida A&M enters (12-14, 7-2)  the series with several hitters producing at a high level, led by Matthew Perez, who is batting .326 with three home runs and 18 RBIs. Jay Campbell has also been a consistent presence, hitting .308 with a team-high 19 RBIs, while Alex Monile (.309) and Caden Kresak (.273) provide on-base stability in the lineup.

William Brown adds power to the Rattlers' offense with four home runs and a .482 slugging percentage, while Justen Crews contributes extra-base ability with eight combined doubles and triples.

On the mound, Tanner Walker has been one of the most effective arms for Florida A&M, posting a 1.98 ERA with 23 strikeouts across 27.1 innings. Jesus Campa (2.70 ERA) and Caleb Granger (3.79 ERA, 41 strikeouts) give the Rattlers reliable options in the rotation, while Garrett Workman has seen extended innings despite an elevated ERA.

Panther Leaders

Prairie View A&M counters with one of the more productive offenses in the conference, highlighted by Ryland Duson, who leads the team with a .353 average, four home runs, and 24 RBIs. Tyvon Moore has been equally impressive, batting .351 with a 1.011 OPS and showcasing speed and power with 10 extra-base hits.

Basilio Williams continues to be a steady contributor, hitting .295 with 15 RBIs and a team-high eight stolen bases, while Corie Lockette and Michael Burroughs add depth in the middle of the order.

Sonnier Moses provides versatility both at the plate and on the basepaths, leading the team with eight stolen bases, giving the Panthers an added dimension offensively.

Series Outlook

Thursday's opener will be key in setting the tone for the series, as both teams look to establish control early. Prairie View A&M's offensive consistency and ability to generate runs could prove pivotal, while Florida A&M will rely on its pitching staff to limit big innings.
