Prairie View A&M men's golf placed third at the SWAC Golf Championships, closing the three-day event in Birmingham, Alabama, with a team score of 25-over-par and two All-SWAC second-team selections. Kenneth Melendrez and Blake Meredith earned the conference honors as the Panthers climbed from seventh after the opening round to a spot on the podium by the end of play April 15.
The Panthers showed their best progression over the tournament's three rounds on the par-72 course. Prairie View A&M opened at 17-over and sat seventh after Day 1, then cut into the standings with a 7-over second round before finishing with its strongest round of the week at 1-over. That steady improvement pushed the team to a 25-over total and a third-place finish overall.
Joah Bramwell turned in the top individual finish for Prairie View A&M, tying for ninth at 5-over for the tournament. Gage Gallo followed at 3-over to tie for 16th, giving the Panthers a pair of golfers inside the top 16. Kolawole Abudu and Meredith each finished at 11-over and tied for 20th, while Melendrez placed tied for 26th at 13-over.
For Prairie View A&M, the defining stretch came over the final two days, when the team cut its score from the opening-round number and played its cleanest golf in the last round. After starting the tournament in the lower half of the team standings, the Panthers used that late push to move up four spots. On a course where avoiding big numbers was critical across 54 holes, Prairie View A&M's 1-over finish in the final round gave it the closing momentum needed to secure third.
The all-conference recognition for Melendrez and Meredith added another layer to the week for the Panthers, who paired individual honors with a strong team result at the league championship. Prairie View A&M leaves Birmingham with a third-place finish, two All-SWAC second-team performers and a final round that reflected the team's sharpest play of the tournament.
