Panthers Head to Alcorn for Key SWAC Weekend Series

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Prairie View A&M baseball team returns to Southwestern Athletic Conference action this weekend as the Panthers travel to Alcorn, Mississippi for a three-game series against Alcorn State at Willie E. "Rat" McGowan Stadium.

The series opens Friday, May 8 before continuing Saturday, May 9 and concluding Sunday, May 10.

Prairie View A&M enters the weekend looking to bounce back following a midweek contest against nationally ranked Texas A&M. The Panthers fell 16-7 in College Station but continued to showcase offensive firepower against one of the nation's top teams.

Panther Bats Continue to Produce

Prairie View A&M has featured one of the conference's most explosive lineups throughout the season, led by freshman Ryland Duson. Duson enters the weekend batting .371 with seven home runs, 10 doubles and 40 RBI while posting a 1.014 OPS.

Graduate student Tyvon Moore continues to provide a spark at the top of the lineup, batting .295 with 37 runs scored, while Basilio Williams has driven in 23 RBI on the year. Senior Michael Burroughs has added power in the middle of the order with four home runs and 32 RBI.

The Panthers also boast depth offensively with sophomore Moses Sonnier batting .296 and Zacarias Salinas hitting .288 with three home runs in limited action.

Prairie View A&M has consistently pressured opponents on the bases as Ethan Walker leads the squad with 17 stolen bases while Moore and Williams have combined for 22 steals.

Panthers Looking for Strong Outings on the Mound

Kenneth Haynes is expected to anchor the Prairie View A&M pitching rotation this weekend. Haynes owns a 2-3 record with 41 strikeouts across 56.2 innings pitched.

Beau Beaty has logged a team-high 67 innings this season, while Isaac Herrera has been one of the Panthers' most effective arms out of the bullpen and spot-start role with a 4.97 ERA over 41.2 innings.

Ty Pankonin and Jaxton Fipps have also provided key relief appearances late in games.

Scouting Alcorn State

Alcorn State enters the series after dropping a 6-2 contest to Jackson State in its most recent outing. The Braves currently sit at 9-38 overall and 3-21 in SWAC play.

Offensively, Alcorn State is led by Jaylyn Bennett, who is batting .317 with 46 hits and 20 RBI. Keaten Hawk has added a strong season at the plate, hitting .288 with three home runs and 29 RBI, while Kanious Davis has been a dual threat with 21 stolen bases and a .289 batting average.

Rayfield Adams III and Asher Friedman have also been consistent contributors in the Braves lineup.

On the mound, Alcorn State has relied heavily on Kayden Sutton and Devin Kriley in weekend action. Sutton has made 10 starts this season while Kriley leads the Braves with 39 strikeouts.
