Myesha Dixon (L) and Terracia Moody (R) Set SWAC Indoor Records in the 60 Meter Hurdles and the 400.

RESULTS

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - For the third straight year, the Prairie View A&M women's track team captured second place at the SWAC Indoor Track & Field Championships as several members shattered SWAC records in the process at the Birmingham Crossplex.

Shaleetha Jackson and Terracia Moody finished third and fourth, respectively in the 60-meter dash as Jackson ran 7.66 followed by Moody's time of 7.67.  Moody returned to the track and placed second in the 200 (24.51) before shattering her personal-best and all-time SWAC indoor record in the 400 with a time of 54.36.  Also in the 400, the Lady Panthers received strong performances from Kelsi Alexander and Sylvonna Thompson as Alexander placed third (56.64) and Thompson fourth (57.23).

Leticia Bustamante finished fourth in the mile run as she recorded a time of 5:17.41.  Martha Bustamante ran a time of 10:53.47 to place fifth in the 3,000 before returning to the track and placing fourth in the 5,000 after a time of 19:14.36.

Myesha Dixon also became a SWAC record holder in the 60-meter hurdles as she ran a time of 8.51 in the preliminary round.  Dixon returned to the track for the finals on Sunday and captured the 60-meter title after clocking a time of 8.6.

Prairie View A&M's mile relay tandem of Thompson, Alexander, Ugonna Okpala and Moody etched their names in the SWAC record book after recording a SWAC record of 3:46.19.  The distance medley relay quartet of Leticia Bustamante, Alexander, Donna Gilbert and Martha Bustamante finished third with a time of 13:00.42.

In the field events, Chantelle Hamilton and Aisha White finished 2-3 in the high jump as Hamilton jumped 5-4 followed by White's jump of 5-4.  Mahogany Cullins claimed the pole vault championship as she jumped 9-6.5 while Charmaine Tomlinson placed fifth (8-2.75).

Dixon's jump of 18-3.25 was good enough for second in the long jump while White placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 37-10.

Rose Sampson placed fourth overall in the shot put after throwing 41-10.75 while Brittany Earl captured the weight throw title after a mark of 57-11.

The Lady Panthers will now turn their sights towards the outdoor campaign as their first outdoor meet isn't scheduled until March 14 at the annual TSU Relays in Houston.  However, several team members are in the running for a berth to the 2013 NCAA Indoor Championships and will participate in a variety of last chance qualifiers as this year's championship is slated for March 8 in Fayetteville, Ark.
