Men's Basketball Falls to A&M-Corpus Christi in Non-Conference Clash

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX --  In a tough non-conference contest, Prairie View A&M faced off against the A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders on Saturday afternoon inside of the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, TX. The Panthers, struggling to find their rhythm, succumbed to the Islanders with a final score of 74-109.

By halftime, Prairie View A&M was trailing significantly, with the score at 30-50. Despite efforts to bridge the gap, the Islanders' potent offense remained relentless, ending the game with a 35-point lead. Prairie View A&M's top scorers were Tanahj Pettway, who netted 21 points and had six rebounds, followed by Nick Anderson with 15 points and two steals, while Marcel Bryant contributed14 points along with 10 rebounds.

Additional contributions came from Zaakir Sawyer and Solomon Oraegbu, but these were not enough to turn the tide against A&M-Corpus Christi's strong offensive performance. The game noted as a key moment where Prairie View A&M faced significant challenges from the Islanders' robust scoring.  Prairie View A&M offense which grabbed 12 boards and turned them into 14 second chance points.  Prairie View A&M forced 16 Texas A&M-CC turnovers. 

Looking ahead, the Panthers are preparing to face UAB on December 6 at the Bartow Arena in Birmingham, Alabama. The team, currently holding a record of 1-6 and no conference wins, hopes to regroup and capture a much-needed victory in their upcoming game.

How It Happened

Prairie View A&M struggled out of the gate, falling behind 50-30 heading into halftime.

Texas A&M-CC kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 66-40 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Zaakir Sawyer's layup, to shrink the deficit to 66-47 with 12:41 to go in the contest. Texas A&M-CC responded and outscored the Panthers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 109-74. Prairie View A&M got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 17 of its 44 total points.
