Aguado and Bravo combine for shutout game one win over Jarvis Christian; Panthers stack ten runs to take game two

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --Senior Devin Aguado and junior Leonardo Bravo combined to throw a shutout on Tuesday as the Prairie View A&M Panthers blanked the Jarvis Christian Bulldogs 5-0.

Aguado started on the mound for Prairie View A&M (7-10), going five shutout innings while giving up five hits, walking one, and striking out five. Bravo (2-0) picked up the win out of the bullpen and went two shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out two.

Offensively, the Panthers were paced by freshman Michael Smith, who went 1-for-1 on the day with a double, three walks and an RBI. Junior Isaac Davila furnished a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 1-for-2 with a double and a walk. Sophomore Michael Burroughs also helped out for Prairie View A&M, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding two walks.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers took the lead for good in the fourth, scoring for the first time in the inning. Prairie View A&M got an RBI single from freshman Trenton Bush, scoring junior Lee Allen from second base.

The Panthers then tacked on runs in the fifth and sixth innings, with their biggest output coming in the sixth when they scored two times. A run-scoring double off the bat of Smith was the highlight of the inning.

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --The Prairie View A&M Panthers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to a 10-3 victory against the Jarvis Christian Bulldogs on Tuesday.

Freshman Corey Battey (1-1) started on the mound and picked up the win for Prairie View A&M (8-10). The left-hander went 3.2 innings, giving up one run on three hits, allowing two walks and striking out seven.

Freshman Michael Smith led the way offensively for the Panthers, going 1-for-2 in the ballgame with a home run, two walks and three RBI. Junior Lee Allen compiled a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 2-for-2 with a double, a walk and two RBI. Senior Marshal Jonas also helped out, going 3-for-4 for Prairie View A&M with a double and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Smith came across to score the lone run of the inning for Prairie View A&M and get them on the board.

The Bulldogs then tied the ballgame at one before the Panthers came back to reclaim their advantage in the fourth inning. Jonas came across to score the lone run of the inning for Prairie View A&M, which brought the score to 2-1 in favor of the Panthers.

Prairie View A&M held Jarvis Christian scoreless before expanding their lead to 6-1 the following inning. The Panthers bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a two-run double off the bat of Allen.

The Bulldogs fought back, closing the gap to 6-3 until Prairie View A&M added some insurance in the sixth. The Panthers scored four runs in the inning, highlighted by a three-run home run off the bat of Smith, bringing the score to 10-3 in favor of Prairie View A&M. The score remained 10-3 for the rest of the game, as the Panthers coasted to the win.
