LAS CRUCES, N.M. --Freshman Trenton Bush racked up three hits, but the Prairie View A&M Panthers fell to the New Mexico State Aggies 10-8 Saturday.
Junior Matthew Krall (1-1) got the ball to start for Prairie View A&M (6-9) and took the loss. Junior Elijah Breeden was a bright spot for the Panthers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing four innings, giving up one run on three hits, with two walks and two strikeouts.
In addition to his three hits, Bush had an RBI to lead the Panthers. Junior Mason Heiskell put together a standout performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk and two RBI. Freshman Michael Smith also helped out for Prairie View A&M, putting together one hit in five trips to the plate while adding a double and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers were trailing 8-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Prairie View A&M plated two runs when Heiskell left the yard with Bush aboard.
The Panther's deficit expanded to 10-2 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the seventh inning. The Prairie View A&M offense exploded for six runs, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Smith and a two-run error from junior Lee Allen, which brought the score to 10-8 in favor of the Aggies. The Panthers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
