Jonas racks up 3 extra base hits in Prairie View A&M's 15-6 victory over Alcorn State

LORMAN, Miss. -- Senior Marshal Jonas racked up three extra-base hits to help lead the Prairie View A&M Panthers past the Alcorn State Braves 15-6 on Saturday.

Junior Matthew Krall (0-0) got the win for Prairie View A&M (16-21, 7-7). The right-hander went five innings, giving up six runs, all of them earned, on eight hits, allowing three walks and striking out three. Freshman P.Allen also pitched well, going four shutout innings while allowing two hits, walking two, and striking out two.

Jonas' three extra base hits were the highlight of a 3-for-4 day and included two doubles, a home run, two walks, and three RBI. Junior Jayden Williams put together a standout performance as well, going 1-for-2 with four walks and two RBI. Senior Benjaming Ybarra also contributed for the Panthers, putting together two hits in five trips to the plate while adding a double and three RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 4-0, the Panthers first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Jonas put Prairie View A&M on the board with a leadoff home run-off sophomore Kewan Braziel.

The Panthers kept the Braves off the board before taking the lead in the sixth. The Prairie View A&M offense exploded for seven runs, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of sophomore Burroughs, which brought the score to 8-4 in favor of the Panthers.

Alcorn State narrowed Prairie View A&M's lead to 8-6 before the Panthers stretched the advantage to 9-6 in the seventh inning.

Prairie View A&M kept the Braves scoreless before their offense got things moving the next inning. A Ybarra bases-clearing double drove in three runs in the inning for the Panthers, bringing the score to 12-6 in favor of Prairie View A&M.

The Panthers held Alcorn State off the scoreboard before expanding their lead to 15-6 the following inning. The score remained 15-6 for the rest of the game, as the Panthers coasted to the win.
