Burroughs and Bush shine in Prairie View A&M's 10-8 win against Texas A&M-CC

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --Junior Trenton Bush and sophomore Michael Burroughs each racked up three hits to help propel the Prairie View A&M Panthers past the Texas A&M-CC Islanders 10-8 on Wednesday.

Junior Elijah Breeden (2-1) got the win for Prairie View A&M (21-22). The right-hander went three innings, giving up one run on four hits, allowing one walk and striking out four. Junior Michael Dews also pitched well, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit.

In addition to his three hits, Bush had a double and an RBI to lead the Panthers. Burroughs added a triple, a home run and two RBI to his three-hit performance as well. Junior Isaac Davila also helped out for Prairie View A&M, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a walk and two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers were trailing 1-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Prairie View A&M put up two runs in the frame, highlighted by an RBI triple off the bat of Burroughs.

The Panthers then held the Islanders scoreless before expanding their lead in the third inning. Prairie View A&M scored once on an RBI single off the bat of junior Garrison Weiss, which brought the score to 3-1 in favor of the Panthers.

Prairie View A&M held Texas A&M-CC without a run before expanding their lead to 5-1 the following inning. The Panthers notched two runs when a single from Davila brought home Bush and junior Mason Heiskell.

The Islanders fought back, closing the gap to 5-4 until Prairie View A&M added some insurance in the fifth. The Panthers scored five runs in the inning, highlighted by a one-run single off the bat of freshman Michael Smith, bringing the score to 10-4 in favor of Prairie View A&M. Texas A&M-CC put four runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Panthers still held on for the 10-8 win.
