PRAIRIE VIEW, -- Prairie View snuck by in a 2-1 victory against North American Thursday (Aug. 15) at home at Lady Panther Soccer Field.

The win boosted Prairie View's record to 1-0-0 overall.

How it Happened

Prairie View started the scoring when Medinat Lawal notched a goal in the third minute.

The evened the game on a goal from Jerusalem Morris in the 50th minute, assisted by Ashley Dodd.

Prairie View then went on top 2-1 on Emily Apodaca's 52nd-minute goal, her first of the season. Jasmari Nolasco assisted the goal. The score closed the 2-1 game.

Game Notes

• Prairie View received one yellow card.
• Lawal piled up six saves for the Lady Panthers out of nine total shots.
• Prairie View peppered 11 shots on goal.

Head Coach Abe Garcia pointed to the team's athleticism. "We did a great job getting the ball around," he said. "Our fitness level is increasing coming from the first game." His assistant, Tino Albarran, stressed the importance of unity, observing, "We have great unity and it shows a lot on the field."

Defender Nani Hodge captured the team's spirit, noting, "When we were able to press together, we were able to make changes in the game. We had a ton of support on the sidelines which helped on the field. On the field, we were great communicating with each other."

The Lady Panthers will return at home against the University of Incarnate Word on Thursday, August 22 at 7:00.
