Panthers Travel to Southern for Jaguars’ Homecoming Showdown

10/17/2025 8:00:00 AM

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Prairie View A&M Panthers hit the road this weekend as they travel to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to face Southern University in a key Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) matchup on Saturday, October 18, 2025. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m. at A.W. Mumford Stadium, as the Jaguars celebrate their Homecoming Game.

This meeting renews one of the SWAC's most tradition-rich rivalries, with Prairie View A&M looking to bounce back and build momentum under first-year head coach Tremaine Jackson. The Panthers enter the contest aiming to carry over their progress from recent weeks while testing their mettle in one of the toughest road environments in the conference.

Southern, led by second-year head coach Terrence Graves, stands as one of the league's most physical and athletic teams. The Jaguars' offense is known for its balanced attack and big-play capability, while their defense thrives on speed and aggressive pursuit. With the added energy of Homecoming, the Jaguars will look to protect their home field and maintain their standing in the SWAC West race.

For the Panthers, execution and discipline will be key as they seek to control the tempo and establish dominance at the line of scrimmage. PVAMU's defense, anchored by a strong front seven, will look to contain Southern's offensive weapons, while the offense continues to find its rhythm through a mix of ground production and vertical passing.

Head Coach Tremaine Jackson has emphasized the importance of consistency and composure on the road, particularly against a conference rival. "We have to play fast, physical, and smart football for four quarters," Jackson said. "Southern's a talented football team, and this is the type of challenge we embrace."
