Prairie View A&M's late comeback falls short in 13-11 loss to Grambling

VERO BEACH, Fla. --The Prairie View A&M Panthers put together a furious comeback, scoring five runs over the eighth and ninth innings, but the late-game rally came up short and they fell 13-11 to the Grambling Tigers Sunday.

Senior Tyson Carlton (0-2) got the ball to start for Prairie View A&M (2-6) and took the loss. Senior Leonardo Bravo was a bright spot for the Panthers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing no hits, with no walks and one strikeout.

Offensively, the Panthers were led by senior Jayden Williams, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a home run, a walk and three RBI. Sophomore Landon Williams put together a standout performance at the dish as well, going 3-for-5 with two doubles, a walk and an RBI. Freshman Sonnier Moses also chipped in for Prairie View A&M, putting together three hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double, a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 7-0, the Panthers first put runs on the board in the third inning. Sophomore Ahmar Donatto's run-scoring single highlighted a two-run inning for Prairie View A&M.

The Tigers expanded their lead to 8-2 before the Panthers offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the fifth. Prairie View A&M managed to push across two runs in the inning, which brought the score to 8-4 in favor of the Tigers.

Prairie View A&M kept the Tigers off the scoreboard before narrowing the gap to 8-6 in the sixth. The Panthers picked up two runs off of Grambling pitching, punctuated by a run-scoring double from Moses.

The Tigers expanded their lead to 13-6 before the Prairie View A&M offense got back to work, biting into that lead in the eighth. bringing the score to 13-9 in favor of Grambling.

The Panthers held the Tigers off the scoredboard before getting within 13-11 in the ninth. Prairie View A&M scored twice on senior Jayden Williams' two-run homer. The ballgame ended with that ninth inning rally falling short.
