GRAMBLING, La. -- Junior Brielle Moreno was dealing on Friday, tossing a three-hit shutout to lead the Prairie View A&M Panthers over the Grambling Tigers 4-0.
Moreno (4-3) went the distance for Prairie View A&M (7-10, 1-0), giving up three hits, walking three and striking out two.
At the plate, the Panthers were paced by sophomore Reagan Green, who went 2-for-4 on the day with two RBI. Sophomore Isabela Rodriguez put together a standout day at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a triple and a walk. Junior Dyani McKinley also contributed for Prairie View A&M, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. Prairie View A&M got an RBI single from Green, scoring Rodriguez from third base.
The Panthers then tacked on runs in the sixth and seventh innings, with their biggest output coming in the sixth when they scored two times. That two-run inning was punctuated by McKinley's run-scoring single.

GRAMBLING, La. --The Prairie View A&M Panthers took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed from there on the way to an 8-3 victory over the Grambling Tigers on Friday. The win gives head softball coach Vernon Bland his 250th overall win.
Senior Cailin Massey (3-3) got the win for Prairie View A&M (8-10, 2-0). The right-hander went three innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on four hits, allowing one walk and striking out one. Senior Madalyne Martinez also pitched well, going four innings, surrendering one run on one hit, walking three and striking out two.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with two runs in the top of the first inning.
The Tigers failed to push any runs across before the Panthers built on their lead in the third inning. Junior Dyani McKinley came across to score the lone run of the inning for Prairie View A&M, which brought the score to 4-0 in favor of the Panthers.
Grambling narrowed Prairie View A&M's lead to 4-2 before the Panthers stretched the advantage to 7-2 in the fifth inning. The Panthers recorded three runs in the frame, two of them coming across on a two-run homer from senior Aerin Talley.
The Tigers fought back, closing the gap to 7-3 until Prairie View A&M added some insurance in the seventh. Junior Mia Nunez crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning for the Panthers, bringing the score to 8-3 in favor of Prairie View A&M. The score remained 8-3 for the rest of the game, as the Panthers coasted to the win.
