GAME 1 | Southern 8, Prairie View A&M 4
PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --The Prairie View A&M Panthers got a boost from sophomore I. Rodriguez, who racked up three hits in an 8-4 loss to the Southern Jaguars Sunday.
Freshman B. Moreno (6-5) got the ball to start for Prairie View A&M (16-16, 10-2) and took the loss. Senior M. Martinez was a bright spot for the Panthers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing five innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on seven hits, with no walks and four strikeouts.
Rodriguez's three-hit day led the Panthers offensively. Senior A. Talley furnished a noteworthy performance as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Senior J. Thomas also contributed for Prairie View A&M, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 6-0, the Panthers first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. Prairie View A&M plated two runs when Talley left the yard with junior D. McKinley aboard.
The Panthers kept the deficit at 6-2 before closing the gap further in the fifth. Prairie View A&M picked up two runs when a single from Thomas brought home freshman K. Zaid and Rodriguez, which tightened the Jaguars lead to 6-4. The Panthers were unable to get any closer, as Southern added two runs to their tally on the way to an 8-4 final.

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --The Prairie View A&M Panthers survived the Southern Jaguars and earned a win by the score of 4-3 on Sunday.
Senior Cailin Massey (7-4) got the win for Prairie View A&M (17-16, 11-2). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on nine hits, allowing one walk and striking out three.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Panthers first put runs on the board in the second inning. Junior Breayna Jackson came across to score the lone run of the inning for Prairie View A&M and get them on the board.
The game remained tied until the very next inning when the Panthers got going again on offense. Prairie View A&M scored three runs in the frame, buoyed by a two-run triple from senior Janaiya Thomas, which brought the Panthers lead to 4-1. Southern put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Prairie View A&M still held on for the 4-3 win.
