PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --The Prairie View A&M Panthers took a 7-5 lead into the seventh inning, but could not hang on and fell 10-9 to the Alabama State Hornets Wednesday.
Junior Isaac Herrera (1-2) got the ball to start for Prairie View A&M (17-34, 13-12) and took the loss. Junior Beau Beaty was a bright spot for the Panthers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing one inning, giving up one run on one hit.
Offensively, the Panthers were led by senior Jayden Williams, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a home run and three RBIs. Sophomore Michael Smith compiled a standout effort as well, going 1-for-2 with a home run, a walk and two RBIs. Senior Brayden Johnson also chipped in for Prairie View A&M, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a home run and an RBI.
A bright for the Panthers is Ahmar Donatto, who In 18 consecutive games continues his hitting streak.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers lost despite scoring in six different innings in the ballgame, last holding the lead in the seventh inning at 7-6. Prairie View A&M's biggest output came in its three-run fourth inning. The Panthers scored their three runs on a three-run homer from Smith that scored Johnson and junior Michael Burroughs.
