GULFPORT, Miss. -- In a challenging neutral ground contest at Gulfport Sportsplex, the Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers softball team faced a tough loss against the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.
Cloudy weather with a breeze from the southeast and sporadic rain provided a dramatic backdrop for the collegiate softball game, where the Lady Panthers were unable to secure a win, ending the game at 0-3 in favor of the Wildcats.
The game was briefly halted for 30 minutes due to a lightning delay post the fifth inning, creating tension and anticipation.
Prairie View's starting pitcher, Brielle. Moreno, faced a challenging lineup but managed to navigate through the adverse weather and the Wildcats' competitive offensive plays. Despite the loss, the Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers look forward to regrouping and confronting their next challenge against the Southern University Jaguars at the same venue on May 7, 2025. Moreno (9-6) started and took the loss in the circle for Prairie View A&M (27-20). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on 10 hits, allowing two walks and striking out three.

Prairie View A&M managed one chance with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position. The Panthers last got a runner on third in the sixth, when junior Mia Nunez made it 60 feet away from scoring with one out.
