PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas — The Prairie View A&M women's soccer team dropped a tight 1-0 decision to the University of the Incarnate Word on Wednesday night at the PVAMU Soccer Complex, as the Cardinals broke through with an 86th-minute goal.
Despite constant pressure, the Lady Panthers relied on disciplined defending and stellar play in goal to stay within striking distance all evening.
Incarnate Word brought heavy pressure in the first half with six shots, but PVAMU goalkeeper
Nenah Jackson anchored the defense early, racking up three saves to keep the match scoreless heading into halftime. The Lady Panthers attempted one shot by
Destini Twiggs prior to the break.
UIW intensified its attack in the second half, taking 13 more shots. Jackson stepped up with nine second-half saves—finishing with 12 total stops on the night—to turn away relentless scoring attempts and keep Prairie View A&M tied deep into regulation.
Prairie View A&M registered two shots in the second half and three overall, with single attempts coming from
Kaarie Hutchinson and
Ashanti Hall. However, UIW finally found the opening it needed with four minutes remaining, slotting home the game's sole goal.
Prairie View A&M returns to action on Thursday, August 20, as they travel to Edinburg, Texas, to take on UTRGV.
