HOUSTON – In a game that featured a whopping 1,044 yards of total offense, Prairie View A&M's five-year Labor Day Classic winning streak came to an end as a 47-yard by TSU in the closing seconds sent PV home with an emotional 44-41 loss before 22,000 fans at Reliant Stadium.

The Panthers opened the contest clicking on all cylinders as they scored three rushing touchdowns (two by sophomore Courtney Brown) for an early 20-7 first quarter lead. TSU closed to within 20-14 early in the second half on a LeTevin Wilcox 33-yard fumble recovery but the Panthers responded with a five-play, 73-yard drive which was capped off by Deandre Cooper's 13-yard pass from De'Auntre Smiley en route to a 27-14 margin with 9:47 remaining. TSU closed to within 27-17 at halftime following a field goal from Robert Hersh.

The breaks fell off for the Panthers in the second half as TSU claimed a 31-27 advantage after two early touchdowns with 10:55 remaining. Brown scored his third rushing touchdown of the night shortly thereafter on the ensuing drive as the Panthers reclaimed a 34-31 margin. However, the lead was brief as the Tigers moved back ahead 38-34 with no time remaining in the third quarter on a 10-yard Riko Smalls to James Davis touchdown pass.

TSU moved ahead 41-34 on a 42-yard field goal with 9:02 left in the fourth quarter from Hersh. Three possessions later, the Tigers were trying to milk the clock but Smalls gave the Panthers new life as he was intercepted in the endzone by Chris King with 5:16 remaining.

Refusing to lose, the Panthers went on a dramatic, 11-play 75-yard drive led by sophomore quarterback Jerry Lovelocke and running back Fred Anderson. Lovelocke used both his arms and feet to make plays along with Anderson as Lovelocke rushed for a five-yard touchdown with 1:16 left. Chris Barrick nailed the PAT to tie the game at 41-all.

The Panthers attempted a squib kick on the ensuing possession but the kick landed at the TSU 49. TSU drove down to the PV 30 with four seconds left and hit the game-winning field with no time on the clock.
