CORPUS CHRISTI, TX --Despite picking up eight hits in the ballgame and out-hitting Texas A&M-CC, Prairie View A&M was unable to push across more runs, as the Panthers lost to the Islanders 12-6 Sunday.
Senior Camden Farmer (0-1) started and took the loss on the mound for Prairie View A&M (4-8). Freshman Kamar Dove was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going two shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking one and striking out one.
In the batter's box, the Panthers were led by sophomore Landon Williams, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a walk and three RBI. Senior Brayden Johnson compiled a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Freshman Corie Lockette also contributed for Prairie View A&M, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 6-0, the Panthers first put runs on the board in the third inning. Prairie View A&M scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Williams.
The Panthers deficit grew to 7-3 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the fourth inning. Prairie View A&M scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Lockette, which tightened the Islanders lead to 7-4.
Texas A&M-CC expanded their lead to 9-4 before the Prairie View A&M offense got back in action, reducing that lead to 9-6 in the seventh. The Panthers scored twice, with one run coming across on Johnson's single. The Panthers were unable to get any closer, as Texas A&M-CC added three runs to their tally on the way to a 12-6 final.
