PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --The Prairie View A&M Panthers fell 6-5 in a 10-inning matchup to the Grambling Tigers Friday.
Sophomore Demarques Thompson (1-4) took the loss on the mound for Prairie View A&M (8-24, 4-6). Senior Leonardo Bravo was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going six innings, surrendering one run on two hits, walking none and striking out four.
At the plate, the Panthers were led by junior Michael Burroughs, who went 3-for-4 on the day with two doubles, a walk and three RBI. Freshman Sonnier Moses put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-6 with an RBI. Sophomore Ahmar Donatto also contributed for Prairie View A&M, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers were trailing 2-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Prairie View A&M plated two runs off of Grambling pitching, one of which was driven in on a run-scoring double off the bat of Burroughs.
The Tigers broke the tie and re-took the lead heading into the third inning, when the Panthers got back on the scoreboard. Prairie View A&M picked up two runs when a single from Burroughs scored sophomore Landon Williams and senior Brayden Johnson, which brought the score level at 4-4.
That 4-4 tie turned into a 5-4 Prairie View A&M lead in the fifth. The Panthers were unable to hold the lead, as Grambling scored two times over the remaining five innings to grab the 6-5 win.
