Prairie View A&M falls to Houston Christian despite late lead

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --The Prairie View A&M Panthers took a 13-11 lead into the ninth inning, but could not hold on and fell 15-13 to the Houston Christian Huskies Wednesday.

Sophomore Demarques Thompson (1-3) took the loss on the mound for Prairie View A&M (8-22). Senior Leonardo Bravo was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 4.2 shutout innings while allowing four hits, walking five and striking out three.

Offensively, the Panthers were led by sophomore Ahmar Donatto, who went 3-for-4 on the day with a triple, a walk and three RBI. Senior Brayden Johnson put together a standout effort as well, going 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBI. Senior Marshal Jonas also contributed for Prairie View A&M, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a double and three RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers were trailing 2-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Prairie View A&M put up two runs in the frame, highlighted by an RBI triple off the bat of Johnson.

The game remained tied until the fourth inning when the Panthers got going again on offense. Prairie View A&M scored once on an RBI single off the bat of junior Jadin Moreno, which brought the Panthers lead to 3-2.

Prairie View A&M kept Houston Christian scoreless before building their lead to 6-2 the following inning. The Panthers scored three runs in the frame, two of them coming across on a two-RBI double from Jonas.

Prairie View A&M lost the lead they built in the fifth but got back on the board in the seventh trailing 8-6. The Panthers scored five runs in the inning, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of junior Michael Burroughs, bringing the Prairie View A&M advantage to 11-8.

Houston Christian fired back to tie the game at 11 before the Panthers reclaimed a 13-11 advantage in the eighth inning. Prairie View A&M picked up a couple on a two-run triple from Donatto. The Panthers were unable to hold the lead, as Houston Christian scored four times over the remaining one inning to grab the 15-13 win.
