Donatto collects 4 hits in Prairie View A&M's 12-9 win against Mississippi Valley State

JACKSON, Miss. --Sophomore Ahmar Donatto collected four hits to help power the Prairie View A&M Panthers over the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils 12-9 on Sunday.

Freshman Landyn Grant (0-0) got the win for Prairie View A&M (17-33, 13-11). The left-hander went five innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on four hits, allowing four walks and striking out five.

In addition to his four hits, Donatto had a double, a home run and three RBIs to lead the Panthers. Senior Marshal Jonas put together a noteworthy performance as well, going 3-for-6 with a triple and four RBIs. Freshman Sonnier Moses also chipped in for Prairie View A&M, putting together three hits in four trips to the plate while adding a home run and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Donatto came across to score the lone run of the inning for Prairie View A&M and get them on the board.

After the Delta Devils rallied to tie the ballgame at one, the Panthers came back to retake the lead in the third inning. Prairie View A&M brought home a pair, with one run driven in by Jonas' single, which brought the score to 3-1 in favor of the Panthers.

Mississippi Valley State narrowed Prairie View A&M's lead to 3-2 before the Panthers stretched the advantage to 6-2 in the fourth inning. The Panthers scored three times, with a showing that included back-to-back homers from Moses and Donatto.
