Prairie View A&M Hosts Alabama State in Key SWAC Showdown at Panther Stadium

Division leaders clash as Panthers look to remain unbeaten in conference play

10/31/2025 10:50:00 PM

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The stage is set for one of the most anticipated games of the Southwestern Athletic Conference season as the Prairie View A&M Panthers host the Alabama State Hornets on Saturday afternoon at Panther Stadium at Blackshear Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. with live coverage on SWACTV.

The matchup features two of the SWAC's best teams as both enter the contest with divisional titles in sight. The Panthers (6–2, 4–0 SWAC) lead the West Division and look to extend their unbeaten conference record under first-year head coach Tremaine Jackson, while Alabama State (5–2, 3–1 SWAC) sits tied for first in the East Division and aims to keep its championship hopes alive with a critical road victory.

Panthers Building Momentum

Prairie View A&M enters the weekend riding a four-game winning streak after last week's 38–0 Homecoming victory over Lincoln University (CA). The Panthers controlled all phases of the game, scoring on five of their first six drives and holding the Oaklanders scoreless in the second half.

Senior quarterback Cameron Peters continues to provide steady leadership under center, spreading the ball efficiently while maintaining balance with the run game.

Sophomore wideout Jyzaiah Rockwell has emerged as a key offensive weapon, consistently stretching defenses and leading the team in receptions and receiving yards. Defensively, Prairie View has been dominant, allowing just 14 points per game during its win streak, led by standout defensive backs Travor Randle and Kamren Amao.

Hornets Eyeing Statement Win
Alabama State makes the trip to Prairie View following the legendary Magic City Classic with a 56-13 win over the Bulldogs of Alabama A&M. Under the direction of head coach Eddie Robinson Jr., the Hornets have leaned on a disciplined, physical defense that ranks among the league's best in points allowed. Running back Jahbari Kuykendall  continues to pace the offense after seven carries a 101-yard, one-touchdown performance last week.

Series History
Saturday's meeting renews a familiar SWAC rivalry. Alabama State leads the all-time series, but Prairie View has won two of the last three meetings, including a 6-9 win in Montgomery in 2024. Each of the last four matchups has been decided by a single score, underscoring the competitive balance between the two programs.

What's at Stake
With both teams in divisional title contention, Saturday's matchup carries major SWAC Championship implications. A win for Prairie View A&M would keep the Panthers in full control of the West Division race and maintain their perfect conference record. For Alabama State, a road victory would strengthen their bid for the East crown and set up a pivotal final stretch of the season.
