The Prairie View A&M track and field teams are set to compete in the SWAC Indoor Championships, held in Birmingham, Alabama on February 22-23, 2025. The Panthers, under the leadership of head coaches
Erik Dixon and
Chris Clay, are looking to build on their strong performances from last season in which the women's team secured a third-place finish and the men's team claimed a solid second overall.
In last year's competition, several Panthers left their mark, and they are once again top-ranked in various events this year.
Savoria Anderson, returning as the reigning triple jump champion, leads the women's field, ranked first going into the meet.
Sanai Kintchen, the defending pentathlon champion, along with
Keonna Otis, who tops this year's ranking for shot put, will offer tough competition for their rivals. On the men's side,
Christion Derrick, the reigning 400m champion, enters this meet ranking eighth. However, depth in talent is apparent as
Arrion Knight reclaims his top spot in the 60m hurdles,
Devin Miller takes the third spot in the high jump rankings,
Darryl Muckelroy holds second in the pole vault, and
Kaiden Berry leads in the shot put.
The championship event promises excitement over two days, starting with preliminary rounds on February 22, followed by the finals on February 23. The Birmingham Complex will host the awe-inspiring showdown where the Panthers aim to not only defend their titles but also capture new victories. As the competition unfolds, it will undoubtedly spotlight Prairie View A&M's athletes and their determination to excel on the grand stage of the SWAC Indoor Championships.
