Softball Takes Two Losses Against UTA at Maverick Tournament

The Prairie View A&M women's softball team encountered tough competition at the UTA Maverick Tournament, facing off against the University of Texas - Arlington Mavericks on March 1, 2025, in Arlington, Texas.

In the first game of the tournament, the Panthers were outpaced by the Mavericks with a final score of 7-2. Despite a strong effort, the Panthers fell short once again in the second game, losing closely with a score of 7-6. Both losses were against the host team, UT Arlington, who secured victories in both games.



GAME 1 | UT Arlington 7, Prairie View A&M 2

ARLINGTON, Texas --Junior M. Nunez went 2-for-4 for the Prairie View A&M Panthers in a 7-2 loss to the UT Arlington Mavericks on Saturday.

Freshman G. Larson (0-1) started and took the loss in the circle for Prairie View A&M (6-9). Senior M. Martinez was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 4.2 innings, surrendering two runs, zero earned, on four hits, walking two and striking out one.

Offensively, the Panthers were led by Nunez, who went 2-for-4 on the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Freshman K. Zaid came across to score the lone run of the inning for Prairie View A&M and get them on the board.

The Panthers lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the fourth trailing 5-1. Senior J. Thomas came across to score the lone run of the inning for Prairie View A&M, which tightened the Mavericks lead to 5-2. The Panthers were unable to get any closer, as UT Arlington added two runs to their tally on the way to a 7-2 final.

ARLINGTON, Texas --Despite picking up 11 hits in the ballgame and out-hitting UT Arlington, Prairie View A&M was unable to push across more runs, as the Panthers lost to the Mavericks 7-6 Saturday.

Senior C. Massey (2-3) took the loss in the circle for Prairie View A&M (6-10).

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers were trailing 3-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Prairie View A&M scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of sophomore R. Green.

The Mavericks then scored three runs to retake their advantage heading into the sixth inning, when the Panthers responded by getting back on the scoreboard themselves. Prairie View A&M scored three runs in the frame, buoyed by a two-RBI double from freshman M. Meeks, which brought the score level at 6-6. UT Arlington then scored one time over the remaining one inning to break the tie and grab the 7-6 win.
