PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --Senior E. Gonzalez and sophomore S. Harris combined to toss a shutout on Friday as the Jackson State Tigers blanked the Prairie View A&M Panthers 12-0.
Sophomore Landyn Grant (1-4) started and took the loss on the mound for Prairie View A&M (4-14, 0-1). Junior Trace Sanchez was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit.
Offensively, the Panthers were led by senior Mason Heiskell, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a double. Senior Jayden Williams furnished a standout day at the plate as well, going 2-for-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Prairie View A&M did not advance a runner past second base in the game. The Panthers went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position, last placing a runner as far as second in the eighth, when freshman Chase Moore made it into scoring position with one out.
GAME NOTES
» Prairie View A&M pitchers faced 47 Jackson State hitters in the game, allowing 13 ground balls and eight fly balls while striking out five.
» Heiskell led the Panthers at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a double.
» Jackson State was led offensively by senior J McCladdie, who went 3-for-6 with a double, a home run and three RBI.
» Gonzalez led the Tigers pitching staff, throwing eight scoreless innings.
The second game on the series will continue tomorrow with the first pitch set for 2pm at Tankersley Field.
