DALLAS, Texas -- Prairie View A&M used an explosive 224-yard performance on the ground and four rushing touchdowns to pick up a 28-13 win against Grambling Saturday night in the State Fair Classic at the Cotton Bowl Stadium.
The Panthers improved to 3-2 on the year and 2-0 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play, while the Tigers fell to 3-2 and 0-1.
Lamagea McDowell paced the Panthers rushing attack by accumulating 98 yards and one touchdown over the course of the game, averaging 9.8 yards per carry. Tevin Carter also added 36 yards and one touchdown on the ground, averaging 4 yards per carry.
Travon Jones reeled in four catches for 47 yards.
Skylon Jean-Louis showed out for the Prairie View A&M defense, recording one recovered fumble. Travor Randle added 10 tackles and one interception and Kamren Amao had nine tackles, 0.5 TFL, and one interception in the win.
The Panthers won the turnover battle in Saturday's game, forcing four turnovers while coughing the ball up two times, with Prairie View A&M turning those takeaways into seven points. Prairie View A&M had a stellar outing on the ground, totaling 224 rushing yards while averaging 6.1 yards per carry and out-rushing Grambling by 119 yards.
Prairie View A&M's defense held up against Grambling's offense, allowing 266 total yards. The Panthers defense disrupted the Grambling passing game on the way to pulling down three interceptions and breaking up four Tigers passes.
Prairie View A&M took care of business in the red zone, scoring three times on three trips inside Grambling's 20-yard line, with all of those scores being touchdowns.
