Men's track and field made a strong showing at the J Fred Duckett Twilight hosted by Rice University. The men's track and field team displayed outstanding performances in a variety of events, earning accolades across both running and field competitions.
In the sprinting events,
Julian Dawkins led the charge by clinching 1st place in section B of the men's 100m with a swift time of 10.99 seconds.
Isaiah Barnes and
Julian Dawkins also competed fiercely in the 200m, placing 4th and 8th with times of 21.65 and 21.85 seconds, respectively. The 400m saw
Christion Derrick taking top honors with a remarkable time and personal best of 46.27 seconds, positioning him at 32nd in the NCAA West Region and 3rd in the SWAC, while
Bryce McFadden secured 5th place in 47.78 seconds and
Todd Woods with a personal best of 48.90.
Anthony Mangram showcased his growing prowess in the hurdles and the 400m, setting personal record of 54.62.
The Panthers' relay teams also excelled, with the men's 4x100m relay team, consisting of
Isaiah Barnes,
Julian Dawkins,
Christion Derrick, and
Eric Brooks, clocking in at 40.66 seconds. Moreover, the men's 4x400 relay team comprising
Todd Woods,
Bryce McFadden,
A'isayah Brown, and
Christion Derrick triumphed with a winning time of 3:12.52.
In field events,
Devin Miller and
Kaiden Berry had notable performances in high jump and shot put, respectively, with Berry setting personal records in shot put, discus, and javelin.
Damion Phillips also set personal records in javelin and discus, showcasing the depth of Prairie View A&M's field events team.
Looking forward, the Panthers are set to compete at the SMU Invite in Dallas, Texas, on May 3, 2025. After a successful outing at Rice University, the team is poised for continued success as they prepare to face their next opponents.
